TALENT DEVELOPMENT (TD) DIMENSIONS: February 7 2023

Learning Leaders,

Your Mercy Care WFD Team presents this “care, share, and explore” opportunity for the month of February 2023. Our goal is to connect you with the global training and development community to help you grow your professional skills, knowledge and abilities.

Monthly Focus:A global focus to consider incorporating into this month’s TD/WFD events.

  • • Current Focus: February celebrates American Heart Health.
  • • Color: The designated color in support of this month’s theme is Red.
  • • About: This year we celebrate 58 years of acknowledging the importance of heart health during the month of February.
  • Support Ideas for 2023:
    1. CDC: The Center for Disease Control (CDC), Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention continues their Million Hearts campaign by joining forces with the CDC Foundation’s “Live to the Beat” campaign. In doing so, they put into a collaborative focus heart health and its impact on Black adults ages 35 to 54 in order to encourage them to initiate changes to reduce individual risks for cardiovascular disease.
    2. CPR: Enroll in a CPR class, either for the first time or to renew a certification.
    3. Wear Red: Pick a day each week to wear red in support of encouraging people to talk about heart health.
    4. Know Your Numbers: Find out your heart stats such as blood pressure and heart rate. Then, create a plan to ensure a healthy rhythm in your life. 5. Designate Daily Themes:
  • Selfcare Sundays: Take time to consider the beat of the week ahead and is needed to ensure optimal wellbeing.
  • Muscle Mondays: Focus on muscle movement to increase your lean muscle mass, which can result in less pressure to your arteries.
  • Talking Tuesdays: Spend time catching up in person or via phone with someone who makes your heart smile by being a positive influence in your life.
  • Walking Wednesdays: Pump a little walking into your schedule…outside if weather permits, and with a friend is even better.
  • Thankful Thursdays: Think of someone in your life for whom you’re thankful. Send them a card or a note telling them, which will pump cheer to their day and their heart.
  • Fellowship Fridays: Find, try and share new recipes that are pulsing with heart-health benefits with your family or friends.
  • Cessation Saturday: Consider starting a tobacco and nicotine cessation program on the weekend, when you’re more in control of your schedule and can stay busy to help distract.

  • • Resources: Consider incorporating the following resources to help further support heart health:
    1. Million Hearts, Live to the Beat Campaign
    2. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Heart Month 2023 Toolkits
    3. National Today American Heart Health Month Ideas
    4. Johns Hopkins Medicine, Exercises that Boost Heart Health

Now Trending Spotlight on a TD/WFD industry trend to incorporate into your professional TD/WFD practice

  • Trend Learning Circles
  • What: A like-minded community of individuals interested in connecting to learn about a specific topic(s), sharing their experiences, knowledge, discoveries, perceptions, and best practices”.
  • Why: A recent LinkedIn survey demonstrated that 86% of adult learners are more engaged when they learn together in a less formal setting, and 92% felt that Learning Circles increased a sense of belonging. This data is important considering 1.) organizations are relying less on hiring degreed individuals and leaning more into individuals who demonstrate a willingness for continual learning and capability/potential, and 2.) modern workers are trending toward feelings of being less connected to work, leaders and colleagues.
  • How: Through collective efforts: Identify a challenge, need, knowledge gap or area of growth. Determine an agenda. Designate a Presenter, who will share what they know or have learned about the topic. Designate a Facilitator to manage the session. When the circle convenes, the Facilitator establishes session and discussion rules. The Presenter offers their insights, uninterrupted. Next, attendees briefly ask questions of the Presenter. Following the brief QA session, the Facilitator engages and encourages a collaborative discussion with team members. Finally, in reflection, team members identify what they learned and will take away from the session.

Current Quote: As usual, we leave you with a final thought and words of encouragement
Love at first sight is possible, but it pays to take a second look.”
